Biography
Mr. Mahaney is an attorney in private practice located in Montgomery, Alabama with areas of concentration in defense of DUI and alcohol related offenses, drug crimes and violations, driver license law, and general criminal defense. Mr. Mahaney established his law office in July 2006 after completing five and half years of overseas service for the United States government. Mr. Mahaney has been licensed to practice law for over thirty-four (34) years. Mr. Mahaney received his B.A. degree from The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. and his law degree from Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama. He is a retired state law enforcement officer as well as a retired U.S. Army commissioned officer. Mr. Mahaney is a frequent guest speaker at CLE programs for the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Assn., the University of Alabama CLE, and numerous county bar associations on DUI and related topics. Mr. Mahaney is the editor and co-author of the treatise Alabama DUI Defense: The Law and Practice, 5th Ed.

Alabama v. White, 496 U.S. 325 (1990) (on brief for the state of Alabama). Numerous Alabama appellate cases argued to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals, Alabama Court of Civil Appeals, and the Alabama Supreme Court.
Instructional Experience
Certified as a NHTSA Field Sobriety Test Instructor (1988 and 2010). Frequent guest speaker for the Alabama Criminal Defense Association, the University of Alabama CLE, and a number of county bar associations on the topics of DUI defense, general criminal defense, trial techniques, driver license law, and related topics.
