DUIDLA Involvement

Biography
Evan M. Levow is a prominent New Jersey attorney who has dedicated his career exclusively to DWI defense. He is the senior and managing partner of Levow DWI Law, P.C., where he represents clients throughout New Jersey with over three decades of experience. Levow earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School, and is admitted to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, before the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.
Nationally recognized for his defense strategies, Levow has defended clients in New Jersey's most important DWI cases, several of which have changed the state's laws and legal protocols. Most notably, he represented the lead defendant in the landmark case State v. Chun, the biggest DWI case in New Jersey history, which set the protocols for DWI defense and prosecution throughout the state. He also represented the defendants in State v. Kent and State v. Renshaw, the most significant recent blood testing cases in New Jersey, which established the defendant's right to confront witnesses in blood testing cases.
Levow has exceptional expertise in field sobriety testing and was the first attorney in New Jersey to be qualified as an Instructor by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the International Association of the Chiefs of Police. He regularly teaches police officers, lawyers, and judges about field sobriety testing, breath and blood testing, and other DWI subjects both in New Jersey and across the country.
Levow is extremely knowledgeable about breath testing and has argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court about the unreliability of the Alcotest breath testing machine. He owns the machine and is certified in its operation, understanding its many pitfalls, which he uses to defend his clients. More recently, Levow has represented the DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA) as Amicus in State v. Olenowski, a case challenging the reliability of the Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) Protocol.
The legal community has recognized Levow's outstanding work through numerous accolades, including being named a Super Lawyer (2010-2024), inclusion in Best Lawyers in America (2008-2025), and a listing in Best Law Firms in America by US News & World Report (2012-2025). He has also earned the AV Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating for legal ability and ethics.
Levow was chosen as the first President of the DUI Defense Lawyers Association (DUIDLA), a national group of over 1,000 DUI/DWI attorneys, and now serves as President Emeritus. He is also active in the National College for DUI Defense, which recognized him for the important role he played in shaping DWI defense and prosecution in New Jersey. In 2014, Levow was named to the faculty of the National College for DUI Defense, a distinction given to only 30 out of 1,000 members.
Levow's expertise has been featured in prominent media outlets including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Newsday, The Courier Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Fox, and 10NBC. Colleagues describe him as "an experienced, knowledgeable and skilled attorney with a national reputation in the field of DUI defense" who demonstrates "genuine concern for his clients."
