Biography

Blaise Katter is a rising star in Ohio's criminal defense community, particularly in the specialized field of DUI/OVI defense. Based in Columbus, he serves as an associate attorney at the Huey Defense Firm, where he works closely with the firm's founder, Timothy Huey, who is widely regarded as one of the top OVI defense attorneys in Ohio. Katter's academic journey reflects his commitment to excellence. He graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors Research Distinction, double majoring in Political Science and International Studies with a minor in Spanish. His honors thesis focused on a comparative analysis of Western European and American constitutional government. Katter then continued his education at The Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law, earning his Juris Doctor in 2014. During law school, he enhanced his legal education by spending a semester studying at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Before joining the Huey Defense Firm, Katter gained valuable experience as a Staff Attorney for the Ohio Criminal Justice Recodification Committee, a prestigious appointment that came at the recommendation of Professor Douglas Berman, a respected authority in criminal law and sentencing at Ohio State University. In this role, Katter worked alongside committee members including an Ohio Supreme Court Justice, judges, legislators, members of the Governor's cabinet, prosecutors, and the Ohio Public Defender, helping to craft significant changes to Ohio's criminal law. What distinguishes Katter in his field is his dedication to specialized training in DUI/OVI defense. He has attended intensive training in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing—the same training law enforcement officers receive—taught by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Master Instructor. He has also completed advanced training in breath alcohol testing with nationally recognized experts in the field. Katter's expertise has been recognized through invitations to present at seminars for respected legal organizations including the Columbus Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (OACDL). He has co-authored an article for the OACDL Vindicator magazine titled "Breath Testing Breath Machine Changes in Ohio – A Practitioner's Update" and has been interviewed by the Columbus Dispatch about Medical Marijuana and OVI law. Active in professional organizations, Katter is a member of the National DUI Defense Lawyers Association and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, where he was appointed as a Board Member in 2018 and was elected President for 2025. He serves on the OACDL's Continuing Legal Education Committee and Public Policy Committee, demonstrating his commitment to advancing the legal profession and advocating for fair criminal justice policies. Beyond his legal expertise, Katter brings diverse skills to his practice. He is proficient in Spanish, holds a black belt in Aikido, and combines analytical precision with compassionate client advocacy. Clients praise his honesty, thoroughness, and genuine concern for protecting their rights. As he continues to build his reputation in the Ohio legal community, Katter embodies the next generation of criminal defense attorneys: academically accomplished, technically proficient, and deeply committed to constitutional principles and client advocacy.
